West Nautical’s Yacht Management team continues to expand

West Nautical’s Yacht Management division has expanded to a team of 7 with the joining of Shaun Moore, who is the company’s new Yacht Manager being based in their Newcastle Upon Tyne office. It is a double celebration for the company as Tom Leyland has been promoted to ‘Operations Manager’ of the yacht management division.

Shaun started his maritime career when he turned 21 after having met the crew of the S/Y Foftein when away for a diving holiday in the Maldives. He resigned from the Sales / Marketing position in IT Networking equipment to travel and pursue his newfound interest in the maritime industry.

After returning home to Durban, South Africa, Shaun completed his Yachtmaster before joining M/Y Astor as Deckhand / Steward and got an early introduction to the charter industry. He left Astor in 2003 to join the 115m Lurssen M/Y Pelorus as she completed the last stages of her build in Germany. After 3 years with Pelorus, Shaun resigned to gain his officer qualifications, when he then sailed 4 large yachts as 2nd and Chief Officer including M/Y Emelina, M/Y Kogo and M/Y Saint Nicolas which was his last position afloat.

Shaun moved ashore in late 2014 to get married and make preparations for their first child who was born in December 2014. Together with his Wife and Son, Shaun has relocated to the UK.

Managing Director Geoff Moore said “we are thrilled to welcome Shaun to the team which has expanded rapidly this year. The UK company is less than a year old and we now have 7 employees, with our French team expanding also. Shaun has excellent experience onboard yachts, from 35m to 115m, and that along with his calm demeanor and strong attention to detail. I’d also like to congratulate Tom on his promotion. Tom’s been with us for 3 months and his move from working onboard to being ashore has been seamless and he is a crucial part of our future”.
