Spotlight on the Balearics with JJ Carey

Discover a decidedly more inviting hue of blue this winter, as West Nautical’s Retail Charter Manager, JJ Carey, uncovers the delights of the Balearics as a yachting destination.

Read on as she highlights some of the best spots to visit throughout Ibiza, Mallorca, Formentera and Menorca.

From the glamour of Ibiza’s boho-chic beach clubs and indulgent foodie scene, to the unique natural oasis of Mallorca, the Balearic Islands offer excellent chartering in both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

While Spain is a large country with diverse cultures, it has long been a seafaring nation and the perfect playground for luxury yachts. Her charter areas are united by stunning beaches, an exciting gastronomy scene, a laidback lifestyle, and a warm welcome is always guaranteed.

Take a closer look at each of the islands, and the best things to do while you’re there:

Formentera:

Explore Ses Illetes Beach: Ses Illetes is often considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Your captain will anchor in the turquoise waters while you enjoy the white sandy beaches, surrounded by pine trees.

Visit Espalmador Island: Espalmador is a small private island located near Formentera. Anchor your yacht and take a stroll on the pristine beaches or indulge in the natural mud baths for a unique spa experience. The island is uninhabited, offering a serene and secluded escape.

Visit La Savina: La Savina is the main port of Formentera, and it's worth exploring. You can anchor your yacht here and take a stroll through the charming town, visit local shops, and dine at waterfront restaurants. It's also a great starting point for renting a scooter or bicycle to explore the island further.

Formentera

Ibiza:

Cruise Around Es Vedrà: Es Vedrà is a mystical and iconic rock formation off the western coast of Ibiza. Sail around this breathtaking site, known for its magnetic allure and stunning sunset views. The area is rich in marine life, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling or simply enjoying the scenic beauty from the deck of your yacht.

Party at Pacha Ibiza: Ibiza is renowned for its nightlife, and Pacha is one of the island's most famous clubs. Arrive in style on your luxury yacht and experience the high-energy atmosphere, world-class DJs, and glamorous surroundings. After a night of dancing, retreat to the comfort of your yacht for a peaceful rest.

Anchor in Cala Jondal: Cala Jondal is a beautiful bay with crystal-clear waters surrounded by pine-covered hills. It's a popular spot for yachts, and many beach clubs offer mooring services. Spend a day anchored here, enjoying the chic beach clubs, water activities, and the laid-back Mediterranean atmosphere.

Mallorca

Hike the Tramuntana Mountains: Mallorca's Tramuntana Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site, provide an excellent opportunity for hiking enthusiasts. While on your yacht charter, anchor near the coastline and venture into the mountains to explore scenic trails, charming villages, and breathtaking viewpoints.

Sail to Cabrera Archipelago: The Cabrera Archipelago, a group of small islands located off the southern coast of Mallorca, is a designated national park. Anchor your yacht in the clear waters and explore the pristine nature, including diverse marine life and seabirds. The main island, Cabrera, offers walking trails and historical sites, such as a castle and a 14th-century watchtower.

Relax at Playa de Illetas: Illetas Beach, located near Palma, is known for its golden sands and clear waters. Anchor your yacht in the bay and spend a day relaxing on the beach or enjoying water sports. The area has beach clubs and restaurants where you can indulge in Mediterranean cuisine while taking in the beautiful surroundings.

Menorca

Explore Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta: These two stunning beaches on the south coast of Menorca are known for their turquoise waters and pristine white sands. Anchor your yacht in the bay and spend a day swimming, snorkelling, and sunbathing. The clear waters make it an excellent spot for underwater exploration.

Visit Mahón and its Harbor: Mahón, the capital of Menorca, has a picturesque harbor that's perfect for yacht charters. Explore the city's historic sites, including the Church of Santa María and the Museum of Menorca. Enjoy waterfront dining in one of the harbor-side restaurants, appreciating the beautiful views.

Discover Cova d'en Xoroi: This unique venue is a natural cave located on the southern cliffs of Menorca.
