The ocean is the backdrop of the entire yachting industry, so the West Nautical and Marine Chandlery teams got together to do their bit for the marine environment with a beach cleanup!

The North Sea might not be quite as inviting for a paddle as the waters our colleagues in the Med are used to, but we are truly blessed with some beautiful beaches up north.

School holidays meant we also had some extra helpers, along with some very well behaved doggos as well!

An afternoon very well spent, the clouds rolling in didn't deter our team of hardy northerners, who succeeded in filling many bags of rubbish, helping to keep our beaches beautiful.

Want to do your bit to help the marine environment? Here are five ways that you and your family can help through simple everyday actions:

1. Reduce Plastic Use

• Action: Choose seafood from sustainable sources by checking certifications like MSC (Marine Stewardship Council).
• Impact: Supporting sustainable fishing practices helps protect marine species and habitats from overfishing and destructive methods.

4. Educate and Advocate

• Action: Learn about marine conservation issues and share this knowledge with others, including children.
• Impact: Raising awareness encourages more people to take actions that benefit the marine environment.

5. Reduce Carbon Footprint

• Action: Use energy-efficient appliances, reduce car travel, and support clean energy initiatives.
• Impact: Lowering your carbon footprint helps mitigate climate change, which has significant effects on ocean health, including coral bleaching and rising sea levels.
