Superyacht charter, sales, and management company, West Nautical, expands in the UK

West Nautical is a full-service superyacht company providing services including sales, charter, yacht management and crew recruitment. While the head office is located in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK, they also have offices in Russia, France, Cyprus, and Palma Mallorca employing a total of 27 people globally.

West Nautical’s UK office was established in 2014 and since then, have become recognised as one of the most respected, trusted, and knowledgeable services firms in yachting, largely due to their relentless determination to act in our clients’ best interests. Their approach and attitude is transparent, refreshing and focused on providing value-added services delivered simply and affordably.

As the pandemic hit in 2020, much the same as everyone, West Nautical was unsure how this would affect business. However, during the summer of 2020, when borders suddenly opened and there was a means to escape lockdown in July and August, there was a huge increase in enquiries from new sources of customers, clients entirely new to yachting but who had the money and means to charter, either alone or with friends and family in their ‘bubble’.

The charter market offered them a perfect alternative to conventional cruises, city escapes or high-end resorts as protocols and safety could be much more stringent. Demand has also increased by the accumulation of charter bookings that had been postponed for a later date due to global travel restrictions, meaning a large number of bookings have now been taken in advance for the 2022 summer season.

2021 also saw a huge increase in yacht sales globally, with clients having more disposable income due to their inability to travel or spend money on leisure activities for a long period of time. For the first time, West Nautical found that there were more buyers than boats. Thus, bringing the need for experienced sales managers – not only to advise clients on appropriate pricing, but also to offer ‘off market’ options that would not be seen online.

This increase in demand for sales and chartering allowed West Nautical to grow substantially as a business throughout the pandemic, which included the hiring of several new members of staff in the UK office as well as the launch of two brand new offices in Newcastle upon Tyne.

At the start of 2022, they will be launching their luxury, shopfront superyacht office on the well-known Osbourne Road in Jesmond, which will serve as a hub for their Marketing & PR team, as well as serve Clients in the surrounding area. The interior fit-out will be one of a kind in collaboration with yacht interior designer John Vickers.
